Sequoia National Park -- Moro Rock

July 24, 2010

I wanted to visit Moro Rock, as it promised views of the Great Western Divide.

The trail is steep, all the way up to the top of this rock in only 402 m (1/4 mi).

An unidentified snow-capped peak.

A beautiful glaciated slope.

The hillside along the way.

The path could be quite vertiginous.

Some interesting lichens.

Looking way, way down.

Looking down the other side of the rock.

An unidentified mountain to the east.

Is it glaciation or wind erosion that makes the rocks lean this way?

Eric at the top.

It’s a pity you can’t see Mt. Whitney from here.

The next four shots comprise a panorama from the northeast to the southeast.

The valley, with the road running through it.

Looking down at the path from above.

I am fascinated by these black lumps on the rock wall.

On to Big Trees Trail.
