Olympic National Park -- Quinault Rainforest

September 11, 2010

Amazingly, it did not rain on us on our day of rainforests. One last adventure before we return to the civilization of I-5.

In addition to its beauty, the Quinault Rainforest is known for its very large trees. We saw enormous examples of several species.

At the Visitor Center, this maple in its fall plumage stood out against the landscape.

Lake Quinault, the jewel of the area.

An extremely large Red Cedar.

The inside of the Cedar.

You could go inside the tree. Eric took my picture there.

Eric also took a picture looking up at the top from the inside.

Next was an exceedingly large Douglas Fir.

We saw a small waterfall on the Willaby Creek.

Eric took my picture through a large log.

This is purported to be the world's largest Sitka Spruce.

Us in front of the big Spruce.

These are not the beech trees we see on the US east coast. They are Red Cedars covered by a white fungus.
