Hawai'i: The Big Island

We visited the highly volcanic island of Hawai'i, known as the Big Island. This is the newest of the Hawai'ian islands, and it is still being formed. The island has a fascinating active volcano where you can see the lava flowing. From the minute you land at the airport, you can see evidence of volcanism -- sharp, black rocks abound. The Big Island is also known for having the best diving on Hawai'i, including opportunities to dive with manta rays. It also has the southernmost point in the United States, called South Point. We are staying in Kona, a world-class surf destination.
